Envirolyte Modular HD generators, also known as MHDG systems, are stand-alone on-site hypochlorous acid generators designed for high-output water disinfection and industrial treatment projects. The system converts water, salt and electricity into HClO-rich anolyte with regulated pH and configurable free available chlorine concentration.
The Modular HD generator is designed for facilities that need reliable on-site production of disinfectant solution without depending on delivered chemical products. Typical use cases include water disinfection, municipal and industrial treatment, food processing, cooling towers and applications where stable FAC output, automated production and scalable capacity are required.
The Modular Unit is part of the Envirolyte high-output generator range and is closely related to HD anolyte generators and ANW anolyte generators. It should be evaluated when a project requires 3.0 kg/h or 5.0 kg/h of active chlorine as HClO, with the possibility of modular expansion in a compact footprint.
On-Site Hypochlorous Acid Generation
The Envirolyte MHDG system produces hypochlorous acid from the electrochemical reaction of water, salt and electricity. Envirolyte has long experience in designing and manufacturing on-site generators using patented cells and time-tested components.
According to Envirolyte documentation, MHDG systems can produce 3.0 kg/h or 5.0 kg/h of active chlorine in the form of HClO at 500 ppm, 1000 ppm, 2000 ppm, 3000 ppm or 5000 ppm FAC, with regulated pH in the range of approximately 2.5–7.5. The system uses flow, pressure, brine concentration sensors and level switches to automate production.

|---|---|
| Generated solution | HClO-rich anolyte / hypochlorous acid solution generated on site. |
| FAC output options | 3.0 kg/h or 5.0 kg/h of active chlorine, depending on configuration. |
| Anolyte concentration options | 500 ppm, 1000 ppm, 2000 ppm, 3000 ppm or 5000 ppm FAC, depending on model and project requirements. |
| pH regulation | Approximately pH 2.5–7.5 during production; provisions for pH ≥8 can be introduced upon request. |
| Automation | Flow, pressure, brine concentration sensors and level switches automate production and tank filling. |
| Scale control | Cell cleaning is performed on an as-needed basis. |
| Expansion | Modular design allows expansion by 5x or more while maintaining a modest footprint. |
Typical Installation for Water Disinfection
A typical Modular HD generator installation includes source water pretreatment, brine preparation, the MHDG generator, an anolyte storage tank, dosing pump and FAC or ORP monitoring. As solution is used, the system can automatically restart production and refill the holding tank.

Why Use a Modular HD Generator?
On-site generation allows operators to produce HClO solution when needed, reducing dependence on third-party chemical supply chains and simplifying storage and handling. Envirolyte documentation also states that the systems require very little raw material and can produce a liter of HClO solution for less than one cent.
| Benefit | Practical value |
|---|---|
| Small footprint | Pre-assembled modular package supports compact installation and easier integration. |
| Remote monitoring and control | Helps maintain optimal operation and reduces required time on site. |
| Modular expansion | Additional modules can be added to meet increasing FAC demand. |
| Factory-tested package | Pre-assembled and factory-tested design simplifies commissioning. |
| Automated production | Level switches, flow sensors, pressure sensors and brine concentration control support unattended operation. |
