Edible Mushrooms Growing

The introduction of ANK-Neutral acolyte in mushroom growing has the aim to replace the presently widely used 2% formalin or ozone, which very often does not produce the required disinfection results. Apart from this, accumulation of formaldehyde in the mushrooms adversely effects the quality of the product – mushrooms.

Anolyte application protocol for one chamber/barn of the mushroom growing premises/farm.

1. Disinfection of the empted chamber:

а) cleaning/washing of the chamber using traditional means;

б) disinfection of the barn using  anolyte.

Important note: No need to wash the chamber after disinfection since after very short period of contact time, anolyte will relax to become just normal water. After all these procedures, the chamber is ready to be loaded with compost.

2. Preparation of compost.

Since the quality of the straw, used for compost preparation, is always doubtful, it needs to be disinfected with anolyte   what can be done by spraying anolyte over the straw.

3. Preparation of pit (cover substance).

Treatment of pit with formalin can be avoided. Instead, before pit is delivered in to the chamber it should be treated with anolyte. Disinfection should take place right before pit is taken in to the chamber.

4. After distribution of pit in the chamber, its secondary treatment with anolyte is recommended with the same anolyte requirement per one ton of pit. This operation should be done the same day pit is to be put over compost.

5. It is advised to have a disinfection bath/carpet before the entrance in to the chamber to be refreshed with anolyte every day.

6. Daily disinfection (at the end of the workday) of the floor and partially wall surfaces by means of spraying.

7. If you have any suspicion about the quality of mycelium particularly about the quality of the grain, which is a part of the mycelium, please check the disinfection of the grain and correct/improve it, if needed.

Since the use of anolyte can guaranty the reliable disinfection of the grain if the right volume of anolyte per ton is applied, please control if:

a) The right volume of anolyte is applied to treat the grain

b) Anolyte is evenly spread over the treated mass of the grain.

c) Grain is protected with some cover and left for ~ 3 hours contact time after the treatment.

d) Check the disinfection of the grain by sending the samples of treated and untreated grain to the lab.

Important notes:

  • Implementation of all above procedures allows to have the first crop of mushrooms to be collected without any signs of infections;
  • Nevertheless, the symptoms of diseases during the collection of second and further crops can appear again but be avoided only if the strict disinfection procedures are applied concerning personal, which is often the source of contamination during collection of mushrooms. Moreover, cross contamination coming with air should be controlled as well what can be done by regular fogging of anolyte in the chamber.
